Puppy and Kitten Visits
We love to see your new family members! At Pet's Choice we value client education, so at each of the three puppy or kitten exams and vaccine visits we hand out a goody bag and educational packets. At your pet's first visit with us, our staff spends time addressing your questions and concerns, along with discussing nutrition, training, and pet insurance. At this appointment you get to select a sample of pet food.
We recommend bringing them in for this appointment when they are 8-9 weeks old. Puppies will receive kennel cough and distemper combination vaccines, while kittens will receive leukemia (after a quick blood test for leukemia) and feline distemper combination vaccines. All puppies and kittens are given dewormer at each of their three appointments.
Puppies and kittens need vaccines at the ages of 8 weeks, 12 weeks, the last set of puppy and kitten vaccines should be at 16 weeks of age, and then their first adult vaccines will be when they are one year old.
Your pet should come back for their second set of the same vaccines 3-4 weeks later. During this exam, we will go over safe ways to exercise your pet, avoiding toxins, and how to keep their mind stimulated as they learn and grow. You also get to leave with a handy little safety kit that includes:
Kittens
-
A window or door sticker to let the fire or police departments know how many pets are in your home, in case of emergency.
-
A cat toy that we feel is safe for unsupervised play, instead of items like strings and ribbons. These also serve as a reminder to keep your cat inside for exercise.
Puppies
-
A window or door sticker to let the fire or police departments know how many pets are in your home, in case of emergency.
-
A slip leash for quick transportation.
-
A reflector tag for their collar
At the third and final set of puppy or kitten vaccines your pet will get the distemper combo vaccination and their first rabies vaccine, which will last for one year. We will also discuss the importance of oral health for your pets, the benefits of microchipping, and whether or not you would like to spay or neuter your pet. The Dental Kit includes a variety of species specific dental treats.
